The heat of the summer sun is upon us, and the time for grilling and barbecuing is here. In my opinion, Weber’s Real Grilling is the book to get you started if you are new to grilling. It’s also the book to have if you know (or think you know) what you are doing. I’ve been using this book for years and still go to it every summer.
I love the illustrations and the no-nonsense style of the book. Author Jamie Purviance gets right to the point, telling you what you need to know about grilling in a tightly written and wonderfully illustrated introduction. You’ll get it right away. It’s easy to become a very good outdoor cook if you spend a few minutes reading some of the basics which are so clearly explained in this book.
Although the book is produced by Weber, Jamie writes everything in a way that can be applied to any grill and brand – gas or charcoal. Both cooking methods are described and explained simply and clearly with no bias. It’s simply a great technique guide and a wonderful collection of recipes. The photography is also superb. Every page is adorned with a lovely photograph. I don’t think there is a single recipe without a photo in the book.
I actually do have a Weber gas grill, the Genesis. I think Weber makes outstanding grills. But that is another matter. For now, pick up the book. You won’t regret it.
